Vintage Army Cot, #21

We just delivered a new Vintage Army Cot, with Leather Strapping—#21 to be precise—to our beautiful shop at Fog City Flea Trading Post.

I adore the look of the fresh veg-tanned leather, complete with a layer of saddle soap, ready to begin the patina process. One of the many beautiful characteristics of this leather, is how it ages—the color deepens, creating patterns of highs and lows that float cross the woven structure. The patina process adds to the one-of-a-kind sensibility.

And as I’m always a fan of a mix of patterns and textures, the Anyi Collection of pillows in all shapes and sizes, makes this cot complete.

Cot #526—sold
Featuring Vintage Army Cot #526. Made in San Francisco, by hand, a one-of-a-kind interior essential, by Beth Miles.
#526 is a 1950’s frame, in its entirety. Refinished and hand woven with un-dyed veg-tanned leather and brass hardware to hold it firmly (and elegantly) in place.

Veg-tanned leather is universally regarded as the most environmentally friendly option and is biodegradable due to the natural substances used in its creation. Robust & strong, this leather will hold up over a lifetime.

Our cots should be treated with oil to maintain a suppleness. Over time, a unique patina will transform the color of the leather, deepening the highs and lows. To avoid waste, we use the entire hide, details within are a reflection of the life that was lived and add to the uniqueness of this piece.

The cot frame has been salvaged, sanded and refreshed to remove the ‘wear & tear’ of its past, within our San Francisco studio. A hint of its past remains; we have restored the wooden frame and steel brackets with a sheen that honors their service.

A watercolor/charcoal rendering of each cot is included with your purchase—another reminder of its one-of-a-kind nature and our gift to you for supporting our small design firm.

measures — 77” long x 30” wide at end support, 27” wide across cot body x 16” high

Just back from the shop—a one-of-kind design, upcycled and ready for its new home—
the Vintage Army Cot in upcycled Levi’s Selvage Edge Denim.

The times call for all sorts of cozy spaces. Loved for its utility, simplicity and surprising comfort—I have a cot in my own collection and stand by its perennial chicness. This unique cot, in upcycled Levi’s denim, has been modernized and is ready to be draped in layers of warmth & extra comfort. The frame and metal fasteners have been sanded and refreshed; the new brass screws add a ‘rivet’ like detail that gives a nod to the signature Levi’s denim.

The upcycled Levi’s Denim cover is a layer added to the original canvas, so that the shape and integrity of design is maintained.

Wool Fleur/denim pillows, a handwoven wool blanket and, of course, a wool shearling pillow add the warmth and depth you see here. How will you adorn yours? We recommend a hot cup of something nearby.
