Beth Miles
Designer, Mother, Maker, Artist.
I grew up in a family of many—the youngest child of eight, born to Depression-era parents. Idle hands translated to idle minds, both of which were not acceptable in our house on Wildwood in the tiny post-agricultural landscape of our Chicago-area home. So I made—filling every corner with a prolific and passionate output that set the course for everything I do today.
I find beauty in the everyday objects that surround me. The width of a stitch; the nuance of the ‘perfect’ color; the mix of patterns and textures in nature and beyond. Walking through my beautiful city inspires my creative process as much as playing with materials within my shop. I’ve always been a collector of objets and admire the ‘cogs and wheels’ that make our lives run and hum. The work within allows me to celebrate that which keeps me inspired and the process for how I capture it all is a statement about our exhausting culture of endless consumption.
Thanks for visiting. Drop me a line to say hello or commission a piece specific to your needs. Happy to put my mind and hands to work.
cheers. Beth
